Formula One driver Alessandro Nannini of Italy lost his right arm below the elbow in a helicopter crash near his family’s villa on the outskirts of Siena.
Doctors were trying to reattach the arm, said a spokesman at the CTO Hospital of Careggio.
Nannini’s parents and wife witnessed the accident. Nannini, 31, who drives for the Benetton-Ford team, finished third in the last world championship race at Jerez, Spain, and was seventh in the championship standings.
