OXNARD : School Candidates to Speak at Forum

A school board candidates’ forum for the Oxnard Elementary and Oxnard Union High School districts has been scheduled from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Fremont Intermediate School.

Janis Johnson, president of the Oxnard PTA Council, said this is the first time a joint candidates’ forum has been held. “This is being done because the Oxnard PTA Council includes all the elementary schools and as well as Oxnard High School.”

The eight candidates vying for three positions on the elementary school district board are scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Those candidates are Jim Suter, William D. Hill, Dorothie J. Sterling, Manuel R. Razo, Bob Hansen, Mary Barreto, Sal Gonzalez and Jack T. Fowler.

The six candidates running for three seats on the high school district will appear from 8:30 to 10 p.m. Those candidates are Roy W. Lockwood, Janet Lindgren, Jean Daily Underwood, Thomas Ragan, Nancy Koch and Angie P. Varela.

The event will be broadcast by Jones Intercable on Channel 19 at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 5 p.m. Oct. 21. It will be rebroadcast in Spanish at 5 p.m. Oct. 24 and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25.

In addition to the Oxnard PTA Council, the forum is being sponsored by the League of Women Voters, the American Assn. of University Women, the Oxnard Federation of Teachers, which represents the high school district, and the Oxnard Supportive Services Assn., representing the elementary school district.
