SADDLEBACK : Candidates Report Campaign Funds

Share

The only candidates generating controversy in the Saddleback Unified School District election are also generating the most contributions.

Appointed incumbent Roberta (Bobbee) Cline so far has raised $3,054 in contributions, the most of any candidate, and still has $1,226 to spend on her campaign, according to reports filed with the Orange County registrar of voters.

Last week, one of Cline’s opponents, Charles Wall, complained that the Registrar had listed her as a “board member” on the sample ballot. She will now be listed on the ballot as “appointed incumbent” because of his protests.

Wall, meanwhile, listed $1,244 in contributions, including four $100 donations from Orange County businessmen and $250 in consulting services from a San Diego firm. So far, Wall has spent $1,731 on his campaign, including $1,000 of his own money, according to the records.

The other candidates reported no contributions or expenditures so far in the race.

In the Laguna Beach Unified School District election, candidate Karen Linden has received $3,700 in contributions, including $1,000 from family members, $300 from local realtors and $400 from two Laguna Beach residents, according to campaign statements.

Incumbent Susan Mas reported $725 in donations and $200 in expenditures.

Incumbent Tim Davis and challengers Eugene Felder and Carl Schwarz reported no contributions.

Felder, vice president of the Laguna Canyon Conservancy, said he plans to spend no money on his campaign, aside from the $350 cost of the ballot printing.

“If you went out and spent a lot of money in this campaign, I think it would work against you,” Felder said.
