FILLMORE : Stabbing of Father Ends Family Dispute

A Fillmore woman broke up a family dispute by repeatedly stabbing her enraged father in the leg with a kitchen knife, authorities said Monday.

The woman then helped other family members hold him down Sunday night until assistance arrived, a Ventura County sheriff’s detective said.

Michelle Morales, 21, was taken into custody but later released pending further investigation by the Ventura County district attorney’s office, Detective Ray Bustillos said.

Bustillos said Richard Morales Sr., 41, apparently had become angry over an incident that occurred earlier at a relative’s wedding rehearsal in Oxnard.

The argument in the family’s Blaine Avenue home turned violent about 10:45 p.m. after Richard Morales Sr. began shouting at Michelle Morales’ young son, threw a telephone at his wife, then attempted to hit her, Bustillos said.

Michelle Morales and her brother, Richard Morales Jr., 20, then attempted to defend their mother, authorities said.

Richard Morales Sr. was treated for stab wounds at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital and released Monday morning.
