An Amarillo, Tex., man who was shot last month in a motel room robbery has died, police said.

Randy Wendt, 32, died early Monday at UCI Medical Center in Orange, authorities said.

Wendt, a guest at the Motel 6 at 7051 Valley View Street, was shot in the stomach Sept. 18 by one of three men who stole several hundred dollars in cash and credit cards from his room, according to Buena Park Police Sgt. Terry Branum.

Branum said Wendt was accosted by the men as he walked into his room. He was pushed down on the bed and told to hand over his money and credit cards. As the men left, one turned and shot him.

Police are continuing to investigate possible suspects, who now would be charged with murder, Branum said.

One day after the shooting, a Los Angeles teen-ager was caught with one of Wendt’s credit cards, but the teen-ager has been ruled out as a suspect in the robbery and shooting, Branum said.
