Lanes, ramps and connector roads on the Ventura Freeway in the San Fernando Valley will be closed tonight and Saturday night to permit work on widening the congested thoroughfare, Caltrans announced Thursday.

From 10 p.m. today to 9 a.m. Saturday, up to three eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed between Haskell and Wilbur avenues.

During the same hours, the southbound San Diego Freeway connector road to the westbound Ventura Freeway also will be closed.

From 11 p.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday, as many as three eastbound lanes on the Ventura Freeway will be closed between Sepulveda and Van Nuys boulevards. Also, the northbound San Diego connector road to the eastbound Ventura Freeway will be closed.

During the same hours, the eastbound Sepulveda on-ramp and the eastbound Van Nuys Boulevard off-ramp will be closed.

Travelers on the Ventura Freeway are encouraged to drive carefully through the construction zone and to use Ventura Boulevard as an alternate, said Jim McAllister, resident engineer for the project.

The closures are part of a $62-million project to widen the Ventura and Hollywood freeways from Universal City to Agoura Hills.

When the project is completed in early 1992, the two freeways will be 10 lanes wide from Lankershim Boulevard to Topanga Canyon Boulevard.
