PRO FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAMS : Kelm Activated, Expected to Start

Share

The Rams, as expected, activated inside linebacker Larry Kelm off injured reserve and plan to start him Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons at Anaheim Stadium.

Kelm, who injured his left knee in the Rams’ last exhibition game, took the place of fellow inside linebacker Fred Strickland, who broke his leg Sunday night and will miss the rest of the season.

“I don’t know if he is (100%),” Ram Coach John Robinson said of Kelm, “but he’s well enough to come back.”

Quarterback Jim Everett conceded that maybe he has been pressing in recent weeks as he has tried to rally the team from big deficits.

“First of all, you don’t want to fall behind 21-0,” Everett said. “But I’m trying to do the best that I possibly can. At some point in time, I’m sure I’m probably trying to do too much. I’ve re-evaluated what I’ve been doing and I’m looking at just trying to do the role that I specifically can control.”

The Rams signed tight end Richard Ashe, who had been released off injured reserve Wednesday, to a practice-squad contract. That puts them at the limit of five practice squad players.

The Rams had 8,769 tickets unsold by the 1 p.m. deadline Thursday, so Sunday’s game will be blacked out locally.
