3 Gamblers Die on Encinitas Tracks
From Associated Press
Three people were killed and one injured when an Amtrak train struck them as they were playing cards and drinking on the tracks in Encinitas, an Amtrak official said.
The four were hit at 6:55 p.m. by train No. 580 out of Los Angeles, said Arthur Lloyd, Amtrak spokesman.
“Four trespassers were playing cards and drinking on the track,” Lloyd said. “The engineer probably saw them, but they can’t stop in time. It’s very upsetting.”
Encinitas is 25 miles northwest of San Diego.
