SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A 17-year-old Oxnard boy died Monday after he was shot in the head while sitting in his car outside a Laundromat at 5th Street and Ventura Road.

Jessie Casares, 20, of Oxnard is being held by police on suspicion of homicide. Identification of the victim is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Oxnard police said that the victim and Casares pulled their cars into the parking lot of the Airport Coin Laundromat shortly before the 2:25 p.m. incident, and that the two looked each other over.

Casares got out and began shooting a .25-caliber automatic pistol at the victim, who was hit in the right eye, police said. Casares got back into his vehicle and drove off, officials said.

The victim was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he died.

Witnesses gave police information on Casares’ vehicle, which was seen by Officer Bryon MacDonald. Three suspects were taken into custody, but two were released, police said.

There was no known motive for the shooting.

A witness, who asked not to be identified, said the incident was not a drive-by shooting. “They were both in cars and they just went to town,” the witness said, referring to the shooting.
