PREP ROUNDUP : Edison Goalie Stanton Shuts Out Ocean View in Water Polo

Jason Stanton had 12 saves to lead Edison to a 15-0 victory over Ocean View in a Sunset League water polo game at Golden West College Wednesday.

Stanton, a sophomore, accomplished a feat that is as rare in water polo as a no-hitter is in baseball.

The victory gave Edison, 15-7 and 5-0 in league, the Sunset League title. Brian Melstrom scored four goals for Edison.

In Sea View League water polo:

Corona del Mar 12, Tustin 4--Ryan Weir and Ted Simpkins each had three goals and Robbie Pike had nine saves for host Corona del Mar (20-1).

In Orange League water polo:

Brea-Olinda 17, Savanna 2--Scott Estrada and Kyle Kilpatrick each scored three goals and Bryan Noyes, Steve Krebs and Jason Bird each scored two to lead Brea-Olinda (18-4, 7-0). Matt Priess had 15 saves, and the Brea-Olinda goalie scored his seventh goal of the season.

In Pacific Coast League girls’ volleyball:

Laguna Beach 3, Laguna Hills 0--Tori Scott, a junior middle blocker, had seven kills to lead Laguna Beach (14-4, 7-0) to a 15-4, 15-1, 15-3 sweep of host Laguna Hills. Senior setter Kealy Clarke had 29 assists and four aces for Laguna Beach.

Trabuco Hills 3, Century 0: Erin Woffinden had 11 aces to lead visiting Trabuco Hills (3-7, 3-4).

In Olympic League girls’ tennis:

Connelly 11, Valley Christian 7--Lisa Kang and Ann Johnston swept, 6-4, 6-0, 6-2, to lead host Connelly (8-7, 6-2).

In Empire League girls’ tennis:

Esperanza 13, Cypress 5--Emily Haas swept for Cypress.
