SEAL BEACH — A 35-year-old Torrance man was killed Friday afternoon when a car struck him as he was using an emergency call box on the San Diego Freeway, authorities said.
Tuk Hyon Ka was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1 p.m. accident, said a coroner’s office spokesman.
Ka stopped on the southbound shoulder of the freeway after his car broke down near the eastbound junction of the Garden Grove Freeway and the Bolsa Chica Road off-ramp, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jack Skaggs.
As Ka was using the emergency call box to telephone for help, he was struck by a Hyundai that veered onto the shoulder.
