Bush Praises Baseball’s Reds at White House
President Bush autographed baseballs in the Rose Garden today and praised the “newest Big Red Machine” as the world champion Cincinnati Reds were honored at a White House ceremony.
“When it comes to baseball, Cincinnati is truly No. 1,” Bush said.
He called the Reds “a team of heart which achieved its important dream.”
The President and his wife, Barbara, then brought out the first family’s dogs, Millie and Ranger, to greet the team’s owner, Marge Schott.
The owner’s St. Bernard, Schottzie, is mascot for the team that swept the Oakland A’s in four games to win the World Series.
