PRO FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKEND UPDATE : RAIDERS : Containing Chief Running Game a Key
The Kansas City Chiefs, the Raiders’ opponent Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, have been at their best when their running game is at its best.
Since Coach Marty Schottenheimer was hired last season, Kansas City is 12-2-1 when it runs 30 times or more in a game. When the Chiefs have fewer than 30 carries, they are 0-8. Raider opponents have run the ball 25 times, averaging 95.1 yards.
Quarterback Jay Schroeder of the Raiders continues to lead the AFC with a 98.6 passing rating. He has thrown for 1,335 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Raiders are expected to decide today whether to activate cornerback Garry Lewis from injured reserve. He has been sidelined with a shoulder injury.
