Brion Runs for 158 Yards to Lead Capistrano Valley

Jeremy Brion rushed for 158 yards on 16 carries and scored a touchdown to lead Capistrano Valley to a 25-14 victory over Irvine in a South Coast League game at Capistrano Valley High School Friday.

Brion, who ran for 113 yards in the second half, piled up a large amount of yardage during an eight-play drive in the fourth quarter that put Capistrano Valley ahead, 18-6. The Cougars (7-2, 2-2 in league) got the ball at their own 21 after holding Irvine on downs with 9 minutes 18 seconds left in the game with the score, 11-6. Brion carried the ball six times, including the final four plays, for 61 yards, including his eight-yard touchdown.

Irvine tried to rally, but the Capistrano Valley defense once again held the Vaqueros on downs and the Cougars had the ball at their own 39 with 4:38 left to play.

Brion carried the ball 12 yards to the 27, and two plays later, Allan Perlas ran nine yards around the left side for the score. Tomek Mikler’s extra point increased the lead to 25-6.

Irvine (6-3, 2-2 in league) scored with 43 seconds remaining when Aron Garcia ran six yards for the score. Garcia threw to Chris Perry for the two-point conversion.

Capistrano Valley scored first on Tony Solliday’s one-yard run. Solliday threw to Dave Poltl for the two-point conversion. The Cougars added three more when a blocked punt set up Mikler’s 24-yard field goal.

Irvine made it 11-6 when Jason Minici threw 32 yards to Mark Huffmann for the score. The two-point pass failed.
