Pacifica High School made the most of its opportunities, converting three Bolsa Grande turnovers into touchdowns during a 27-7 Garden Grove League victory Friday.

The Mariners forced five turnovers, including a fumble recovery at their own five-yard line that followed a 59-yard run by Bolsa Grande’s Marcus Wilson. Two plays later, Pacifica’s Derreck Nicholson broke through the middle for a 78-yard touchdown run to give Pacifica (6-3, 4-2 in league) a 7-0 lead with 8 minutes 7 seconds left in the second quarter.

Two minutes later, Ryan Bremer scored on a one-yard run set up by a Matador fumble to make the score 14-0.

Bolsa Grande (3-6, 2-4) made it 14-7 just before halftime on a 40-yard run by Bryan Taylor.

But the Mariners put the game away with two third-quarter touchdowns, the first a seven-yard run by Bremer. Mariner linebacker Jim Lochner intercepted his second pass of the night and Bremer scored four plays later.

Nicholson, who gained 156 yards in 13 carries, closed out the scoring with a six-yard run on the last play of the third quarter.
