COLLEGE FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Barrett Leads Santa Monica Over Pierce

Share

Sophomore quarterback Jeff Barrett, a former standout at Burroughs High who owns most of the passing records at Santa Monica College, established another milestone Saturday night.

Barrett directed Santa Monica to a 47-28 Western State Conference, Southern Division win over an inspired Pierce squad, which was missing the services of leading ground gainer LaShante Parker, out with an ankle injury.

Barrett threw touchdown passes of 25, 45, and 20 yards and also rushed for a touchdown to pace Santa Monica (6-2, 5-2 in conference play), ranked 16th in the state.

He completed 20 of 33 passes for 285 yards, breaking the previous career completion mark of 221 at Santa Monica. Barrett has now completed 237 passes.

Barrett is also the career record-holder in passing yardage, total offense and touchdown passes and he has two regular-season games remaining.

Pierce (3-5, 3-4) dominated in the first quarter, opening a 14-0 lead on two-yard touchdown runs by Pat Brown (16 carries for 79 yards) and D. J. Vlaming.

Barrett got on track as the Corsairs scored 21 consecutive points in the second quarter and never trailed again.
