Oregon, ranked 20th and in second-place in the Pacific 10 Conference, will be invited to the Freedom Bowl at Anaheim Stadium, a Freedom Bowl official said Monday.

The invitation for the Dec. 29 bowl game will be extended Nov. 24, the first day such an offer can be made or accepted under NCAA rules, said Don Andersen, executive director of the Orange County Sports Assn., which puts on the Freedom Bowl.

Oregon, 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the Pac-10, has two games remaining in the regular season--at California Saturday and at Oregon State Nov. 17--but Andersen said the Ducks will be invited regardless of the outcome of their remaining games.

Oregon Athletic Director Bill Byrne said if such an offer is made, Oregon will accept it.

Andersen said the bowl is planning to offer the other bid to the second-place team in the Western Athletic Conference. Colorado State (6-3, 5-1) and Wyoming (9-1, 5-1) are tied for second place behind Brigham Young (7-1, 5-0).

The Oregonian of Portland also reported that Arizona is headed for the Dec. 25 Aloha Bowl at Honolulu and Cal will play in the Copper Bowl Dec. 31 at Tucson.
