COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : UCLA : Maddox Perks Up a Down Season
Quarterback Tommy Maddox is recording some impressive numbers this season.
He had 332 yards passing against Oregon last Saturday. He also threw for 353 yards against Michigan earlier in the season, becoming the first Bruin to pass for at least 330 yards twice in a career--and he’s only a redshirt freshman.
Maddox has passed for 2,034 yards this season even though he didn’t play in the first half of the first two games, against Oklahoma and Stanford. He is averaging 226 yards passing a game. Only Tom Ramsey, with 248.8 in 1982, and Troy Aikman, with 230.9 in 1988, have better UCLA averages for a season.
Maddox also leads the Pacific 10 in total offense with 237.3 yards a game and is ranked 11th nationally. In passing efficiency, he is third in the league with a 131.5 rating.
