A 14-year-old Northridge girl, who said she was blown off a bridge by high winds, fell almost 100 feet into a canyon in Limekiln Park in Porter Ranch and lay trapped overnight with serious injuries.

Los Angeles Fire Department and Paramedic units rescued Melanie Lecompte after she was sighted by a passerby Wednesday morning.

The girl fell, but she told paramedics that “she was walking along (when) a big gust of wind blew her over the edge,” said paramedic Paul Sorum. He estimated her weight at 140 pounds.

Rescuers had to climb 40 feet down to the girl and carry her out of the canyon. A helicopter airlifted her to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles, where she was being teated for head injuries, multiple internal injuries and fractures of her right leg and ankle, authorities said.
