Freeway Snarl Follows Crash of Truck, Car

The northbound San Diego Freeway was closed briefly Thursday morning while the California Highway Patrol dealt with a collision between a garbage truck and a car, authorities said.

The 10 a.m. accident left the car driver slightly injured and forced closure of the freeway for about 10 minutes. The mishap tied up northbound traffic for about an hour, CHP officer Charles Swift said.

The driver of the car, whose name was being withheld pending investigation, was being treated at Healthcare Medical Center of Tustin for a cut on the back of her head and a pain in her upper left arm, Swift said.

It is unclear how the collision occurred, but Swift said it may have been caused by a backup of traffic exiting the freeway at Jamboree Road.

“That seems to be the reason,” he said, but the investigation is continuing.
