SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Carson High quarterback John Walsh went over 3,000 yards for the season when he passed for 208 Friday night in leading the Colts to a 21-7 Pacific League victory over Dorsey at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Latario Rachal had six catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns for Carson (8-1, 5-0). Rachal’s 32-yard reception with 1:37 left in the third quarter put the Colts ahead for good, 14-7, and put Walsh at 3,004 yards.

Walsh, who entered the game with 2,834 yards, had 15 completions in 23 attempts for two touchdowns with one interception. He has 33 touchdown passes and 3,042 yards.

The Colts scored on the game’s opening possession on a 14-yard pass from Walsh to Rachal, which capped a four-play, 60-yard drive. But the Colts, The Times’ top-rated City team, failed to score during the rest of the first half.

Dorsey (7-2, 4-2), the defending City 4-A champion, made the score 7-7 when quarterback Ronald Peebles scored on a one-yard run with 5:07 left in the second quarter. Peebles’ 31-yard pass to Keyshawn Johnson keyed the seven-play, 56-yard drive.

A two-yard sneak by Walsh made the score 21-7 early in the fourth quarter. The touchdown was set up by Peebles’ fumble late in the third quarter.

Peebles suffered a dislocated right thumb on the play.

“That was big because we lost our quarterback and our leader, and it led to a touchdown,” Dorsey Co-Coach Paul Knox said. “(Peebles) was a big reason we were in the game to that point.”

The Dons’ Lamont Warren, who has been slowed by an ankle injury, gained 25 yards on his first carry en route to 16 carries for 82 first-half yards. But Warren, the 1989 City Player of the Year, finished with only 78 yards in 21 carries.
