Man Being Investigated for Death of Passenger in Alleged Drag Race
An 18-year-old Tustin man is being investigated for suspicion of vehicular manslaughter after an alleged drag race in Santa Ana late Friday night that resulted in the death of his passenger.
Richelle Broederlow, 20, also of Tustin, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the intersection of Santa Clara and Tustin avenues, police Sgt. Dick Faust said.
The driver, Mark Photoglou, allegedly was drag racing while heading east on Santa Clara Avenue. Police said Photoglou lost control of his car and plowed into the rear of a van that was stopped for a red light at the intersection.
Faust said the van was not part of the high-speed contest and the driver of the other car involved in the race fled the scene.
No other injuries were reported, he added.
Broederlow was released from Orange County Jail Saturday after posting bond, the Sheriff’s Department said.
