Share

A Simi Valley High School teacher arrested on suspicion of annoying or molesting a 16-year-old boy has been suspended from his teaching duties, school officials said Tuesday.

John Burns, 40, will be suspended pending resolution of the misdemeanor charge, Simi Valley High Principal David Ellis said.

Burns, who had been under investigation by Simi Valley police detectives since Oct. 24, was arrested on the high school campus last week. He was charged with making improper sexual advances to the unidentified boy.

Burns has taught photography at the school for three years, and there have been no prior complaints, Ellis said.

Child annoyance is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in Ventura County Jail and a fine of up to $1,000, Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael K. Frawley said. A court date was set for December, he said.
