A suspect in a West Covina bank robbery was fatally shot by police Wednesday after a high-speed car chase that ended when his car crashed into two police cruisers, authorities said.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said that William Low, 33, of Baldwin Park was killed around noon Wednesday when West Covina police opened fire on him and another man after their car smashed into the police cars at Puente and Vincent avenues in West Covina following a five-mile chase. The incident is under investigation.

The two allegedly robbed the First Federal Savings & Loan branch on Barranca Avenue.

The second suspect, who was not identified, was not wounded and was taken into custody

A sheriff’s spokesman said no weapon was recovered, and he did not know whether the suspects were armed. Police said the two are believed to be responsible for a dozen bank robberies in Los Angeles and Orange counties over the past three months.
