Redevelopment Agency Will Be Disbanded

The Hidden Hills redevelopment agency--the target of criticism and legal challenges since its inception six years ago--will disband next month, the Hidden Hills city attorney said Friday.

Under a tentative agreement with Los Angeles County, the western San Fernando Valley city will dissolve the agency and return a portion of the redevelopment funds it has received to the county, which will use them to build low-income housing.

The city no longer wants the agency because under state law, a portion of the redevelopment money it is collecting from the county must be spent for low-income housing inside the boundaries of Hidden Hills, a gated, affluent community of 2,000 residents.
