Share

Mission Viejo High was selling its football programs Friday night by saying they contained all the highlights of the Diablos’ season.

Well, they contained almost all of the highlights.

Mission Viejo saved some its best work for Arcadia in the first round of the Division II playoffs, winning, 56-15, at Capistrano Valley High School.

Some additions for the next edition of the Diablos’ program:

--Mission Viejo piled up 356 yards in the first half. The Diablos had a balanced attack with Marcellus Chrishon rushing for 136 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns, including an 80-yard dash on the first play of the game.

--Tim Snowden’s first three passes went for Mission Viejo touchdowns. Mission Viejo scored three times with its first four plays.

--The Diablo defense sacked Arcadia quarterback Kevin Schramm five times and held the Apaches to just 14 yards total offense in the first half.

The victory earned Orange County’s top-ranked team (10-1) a second-round game against Downey.

“You never know what to expect in the playoffs and you go out and set up a game plan and hope to execute it,” said Mission Viejo coach Mike Rush.

And Mission Viejo executed to perfection.

After Chrishon opened the scoring with his 80-yard run, the Diablos scored again when Snowden threw 47 yards to Anthony Ramirez. Doug Roberson’s kick made it 14-0.

Mission Viejo opened up a 21-0 lead when Snowden, who finished the game 7 of 11 for 180 yards, found Ramirez again for 44 yards. Snowden’s third touchdown pass went to Jason Pappas and covered 27 yards.
