COSTA MESA : OCC Offers $150,000 in Scholarships

Scholarship applications for Orange Coast College’s 1991-92 academic year are available in the dean of students office.

Nearly $150,000 in scholarships will be awarded at the annual Honors Night banquet next May. Scholarship awards range from $200 to $2,000 each.

Applications for general scholarships must be returned to the dean of students office by Feb. 11. The office is in the college Administration Building.

The general category includes continuing and transferring scholarships. Students applying for continuing scholarships must complete 12 units by the end of the 1990 fall semester and be enrolled in a minimum of six units next spring. Spring classes begin Jan. 22.

Students who receive scholarships are required to have a 3.3 cumulative grade point average.

Students applying for transferring scholarships must complete 42 units by the end of the fall semester and have a grade point average of 3.5. They must complete 56 units by the end of the 1990-91 academic year.

The Scholarship Committee, which includes faculty, staff and students, considers a student’s financial need, grade point average, service and leadership, employment and exceptional personal and academic circumstances, when awarding the scholarships.

Applications for specialized technology, music, visual arts and consumer and allied health scholarships are due Feb. 22. Those scholarships are judged according to individual skill and departmental criteria.
