Zrinka Kristich School: La Habra High School Sport: Volleyball Position: Outside hitter Class: Junior

At 6-foot-5, Kristich is the tallest player on the tallest girls’ volleyball team in the Southern Section. “It’s pretty intimidating for our opponents when they see her reaching over the net standing flat-footed,” La Habra Coach Sandy Blumenthal said. “It’s an advantage for her to just walk into the gym.” Saturday, Kristich had 18 kills in the Highlanders’ three-game sweep of El Modena in the Division 3-A championship match Saturday, La Habra’s 41st consecutive victory. Blumenthal said Kristich is more confident this season, and that her play has improved accordingly. She and her sister, Ana, a senior middle blocker on the team, have never played club volleyball, instead concentrating on basketball. Kristich said she may play club volleyball this summer to try to tap her potential. Other top performers:

Lara Carlsen and Tracy Schriber, who had 18 and 13 kills, respectively, to lead Corona del Mar to a three-game victory over Mira Costa in the Division 5-A girls’ volleyball championship Saturday.
