Two-year-old California-breds will be in the spotlight at Los Alamitos on Thanksgiving as the $25,000 added Golden West Stakes featuring My Escalon and Tollcat will be contested.

A field of eight will go to the post in the 400-yard Golden West, with much of the attention in the race centered on My Escalon and Tollcat, both four-time winners in their short racing careers.

My Escalon hails from the Bret Layne barn and has won four of his 11 lifetime starts. A gelded son of Barrymore, My Escalon made his last start Aug. 18 in the Governor’s Cup Futurity at Los Alamitos when he finished a strong second to Blisterin. Besides his Governor’s Cup win, Blisterin posted a victory in the California Sires Cup Futurity last week.

Steve Treasure will ride My Escalon, which drew the outside post in the field of eight and will carry high weight of 124 pounds.

Tollcat also has a big chance to capture the Golden West. The son of Tolltac has been victorious in four of his seven lifetime starts and is fresh from a strong third place finish to Easy Martini in the recent Grade III Cypress Handicap.

John Creager will ride Tollcat, who will break from post five.

Other horses that could surprise in the Golden West are Easy Natova and MS Supercharger.

Both fillies are from the Henry Dominguez barn but will be uncoupled in the wagering.

Easy Natova has won half of her eight starts while facing claimers until her Nov. 2 win against allowance rivals.

At Queen City Downs in Nebraska, MS Supercharger crossed under the wire first in the Great Plains Futurity but was disqualified to fourth.

Henry Garcia will handle Easy Natova, while leading rider Kip Didericksen gets the call on MS Supercharger.

Rounding out the field will be Insurgency Flight Patrol, A Bit Of Tac, and Mr Shaman.
