PRO FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAIDERS : Chiefs’ Thomas Remains Threat

Share

The Raiders will have to contain linebacker Derrick Thomas of the Kansas City Chiefs if they hope to beat the Chiefs Sunday.

The NFL leader with 15 sacks, Thomas had seven sacks two weeks ago in 17-16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Although Thomas has 14 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks and three forced fumbles in three games against the Raiders, they held him in check in a 9-7 loss at Kansas City three weeks ago, limiting him to one sack.

How did the Raiders block Thomas in the first meeting this season?

“Very well,” Thomas said. “Marcus (Allen) remained in the backfield (to block Thomas), and he did a pretty good job. They had a pretty good scheme.”

Injury report: Raider running back Napoleon McCallum (thumb) is listed as probable for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.

Chief linebacker Tracy Rogers (knee) will be sidelined. Center Tim Grunhard (thumb) is questionable, and defensive end Bill Maas (knee) and nose tackle Dan Saleaumua (ankle) are probable.

Raider defensive end Greg Townsend and teammates Anthony Smith, Ron Brown, Mike Wise, Mike Alexander visited the Union Rescue Mission on Skid Row after practice Thursday, helping to serve Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless.
