Reader Can’t Bear Article on Hunting
Some years ago, I worked at a sporting goods store. I had been processing California bear-hunting licenses for a week or so. One day, while going over yet another application, I noticed, for the first time, the image of the California bear printed on every license. Then it hit me: I had been giving out licenses to kill the symbol of the state of California!
I thought it was funny, but the guys at the store, not unlike the hunters in your article, didn’t see any problem with gunning down the state animal, provided they possessed a license from the state to do so.
Makes you proud to be a Californian, doesn’t it?
