Distance runners Bryan Dameworth of Wisconsin and Eliazar Herrera of UCLA and sprinter Marion Jones of Rio Mesa High have been honored by Track & Field News magazine as high school All-Americans for the 1990 season.

Dameworth, formerly of Agoura High, was ranked second in the country in the boys’ 3,000 meters and Hoover graduate Herrera was third in the same event.

Jones, who won state titles in the 100 and 200 meters as a freshman in June, was ranked third in the girls’ 200.

Individuals ranked in the top three in each event are considered All-Americans.

Dameworth, the three-time state Division I and 1989 Kinney national cross-country champion, was ranked second behind Andy Maris of White River (Wash.) High.

Dameworth led the nation in the two-mile with a converted time of 8 minutes 56.38 seconds, but Maris (8:56.90) defeated him in the 3,200 meters in the Arcadia Invitational in April and in the two-mile in the International Prep championships in Elmhurst, Ill., in June.

Herrera, who finished second in the 3,200 in the state championships and won the 3,000 in the Golden West Invitational, had a two-mile best of 9:02.12, fourth on the national list.

Zundra Feagin of Cocoa (Fla.) High (23.13) and Inger Miller of Pasadena Muir (23.57) were ranked ahead of Jones in the 200.

Jones’ personal bests of 11.62 seconds in the 100, 23.70 in the 200, and 54.21 in the 400 placed her third, third, and fourth, respectively, on the national list.

The 100 and 200 times were national age-14 records.
