Corona del Mar High School will play Poway in the second round of the Southern California Division I Regional girls’ volleyball tournament at 7:30 tonight at Corona del Mar.

Corona del Mar’s 23-match winning streak will be on the line against Poway (23-5).

The winner will advance to the regional semifinals Tuesday night against the winner of the Lynbrook-Vacaville match. The state finals are Saturday at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Sea Kings (25-1), the Southern Section 5-A champions, are led by middle blocker Lara Carlsen, outside hitter Tracy Schriber and setter Prentice Perkins.

Corona del Mar advanced to the second round with a four-game victory over Notre Dame Academy Tuesday night.

Sea King Coach Dale Flickinger said his team must play better than it did against Notre Dame Academy to beat Poway. The Sea Kings committed 12 hitting errors in the third game Tuesday and nearly blew a 14-8 lead in the fourth game.

“I guess this game was a good learning experience for us,” Flickinger said of the first-round game. “This gets us back to where we were at the start of the season, when we lost to La Habra (in the semifinals of the Orange County championships). We have some things we need to work on.”

Poway has won six of the past seven San Diego Section titles, including this year’s Division II championship over Mt. Carmel. The Titans, who lost to the Sea Kings in last year’s regional semifinals, are led by senior outside hitter Heather Collins and twin middle blockers Amy and Heather Burke.

In Division II, La Habra will play host to Bakersfield Highland in a second-round game at 7:30 tonight. The Highlanders (23-0) are led by middle blocker Missy Clements and outside hitter Zrinka Kristich. They have a two-year winning streak of 42 matches.
