GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Cypress Knocks Off San Clemente to Advance at Irvine

Frances Oda scored 21 points to help Cypress High School defeat San Clemente, 56-53, in overtime in the first round of the Irvine girls’ basketball tournament Wednesday at University High School.

Allison Kosaka added 14 for Cypress (1-0). Maili Rohner scored 20 points for San Clemente (0-1).

In other Irvine Tournament games:

Edison 58, La Quinta 37--Melanie Iwamasa scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds, Talia Crooks scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds, and Erika Miller had 10 points and four steals for Edison.

Dana Hills 49, Ocean View 37--Adara Newidouski scored 12 points and added 13 rebounds for Dana Hills, and Tricia Lindquist had 11 points for Ocean View.

Loara 46, Irvine 20--Kristin Thibodeau scored 12 points for Loara.

Woodbridge 88, Orange 25--Deanna Harry and Belinda Schwartz scored 14 points each for Woodbridge.

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Laguna Hills 30, Westminster 24--Tonya Stevens had nine points to lead visiting Laguna Hills in the the opener for both teams.
