Ray Whalen’s fourth touchdown, a one-yard run in the third overtime, gave Nevada a 42-35 victory over Furman Saturday in the longest NCAA Division I-AA playoff game.

Nevada (12-1) plays Big Sky foe Boise State next Saturday in the semifinals.

In each overtime, teams are given the ball on the opponents’ 25-yard lines. Neither scored on its first possession Saturday and both scored on the second before Whalen’s touchdown.

Nevada had forced the overtime when Chris Vargas hit Ross Ortega on a 13-yard touchdown pass and Joe King with a two-point conversion with 16 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
