Ty Detmer was serenaded and presented with a key to the city as a crowd of 3,500 gathered for a rally honoring Brigham Young University’s first Heisman Trophy winner. At the entrance to the campus, a huge blue-and-white ‘Y’ with a superimposed ‘T’ hung from the N. Eldon Tanner business center. Local establishments, ranging from dry cleaners to the Provo Water Quality Department, also displayed signs congratulating Detmer.
