THE SIDELINES : New NCAA Inquiry in Oklahoma
The NCAA has opened a new inquiry of Oklahoma State University, but is not specifying which sport is under investigation.
The Daily Oklahoman reported in today’s editions that Oklahoma State received an NCAA Preliminary Letter of Inquiry on Sept. 21. “That preliminary letter signals a full-scale investigation by us,” David Berst, director of enforcement for the NCAA, said Tuesday.
While the NCAA letter does not specify a sport, the NCAA reportedly has been asking questions about the Oklahoma State wrestling program since the summer.
The Oklahoma State football program was placed on four years probation in January, 1989.
Oklahoma State Athletic Director Jim Garner said he has had people checking the wrestling program and has found no problems.
