The Minnesota woman who captured the heart of the nation with her elation when her horse won the Kentucky Derby in May now ranks second nationally among thoroughbred horse owners in money won this year.

According to statistics published by the Daily Racing Form, horses owned by Frances Genter had earned more than $4.6 million through Oct. 31, second only to Canada’s Kinghaven Farms.

The star of Genter’s stable, Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Unbridled, led all horses by a wide margin with more than $3.7 million in earnings this year.

Genter’s stable also ranked second in stakes purses won and was tied for 28th in total races won.

Unbridled’s trainer, Carl Nafzger, who was shown personally calling the progress of Unbridled for Genter in their box at Churchill Downs during the Kentucky Derby, ranked second among trainers in money won with more than $6 million.

Nafzger also made his mark at Minnesota’s pari-mutuel track, Canterbury Downs in Shakopee, where he holds the record in stakes races won by a trainer.
