COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : San Diego Mesa Stops Golden West in Final Seconds
Golden West College got a second chance in the final three seconds but couldn’t capitalize and wound up losing, 75-74, to San Diego Mesa in the first round of the Riverside Tournament Wednesday.
Trailing by one, Golden West’s Paif Parish missed a three-pointer and the ball rolled out of bounds with three seconds left. Mesa only had to in-bound the ball to win, but Ken Thompson’s length-of-the court pass went out of bounds without touching a player.
No time elapsed, and Golden West was awarded possession under its basket. Darren Ernst passed to Ric Van Scoyoc, who appeared to have been hit on the arm as he tried to shoot, but no foul was called and time ran out as his shot fell short.
Scott Campbell scored 29 points for Golden West (4-8).
In another Riverside Tournament game:
East Los Angeles 96, Fullerton 91--Fullerton had already defeated East Los Angeles twice this season, but failed in a third try.
Fullerton led, 49-45, at the half only to see East L.A. take the lead for good, 61-59, on a short jumper by David Mendez with about 16 minutes left. East L.A. then pulled away to an 87-81 lead with 6:12 left.
