Here’s Some Advice for Sports Reporters

Share

After watching the interview on TV last night where Mike Ditka walked out, I say hurrah for Mike Ditka. Maybe now reporters will think twice about what questions they pose when granted interviews. These interviews are granted, not mandatory.

Reporters shouldn’t ask or expect coaches to answer “all pertinent questions.” Pertinent to whom? Do they think Coach Ditka appreciated their pointing out to him that things didn’t exactly go his way? That something else might have worked better? If a coach had all the answers, he’d have won the game. If he believed a certain strategy would eventually be successful, he would stick to it.

When the Bears do win a game, will the reporters still be stating the obvious?
