Ronnie Lott already was doubtful for the San Francisco 49ers’ next game. Now he is questionable for the rest of the season.

Lott, who suffered sprained knees Dec. 3 against the New York Giants, sat out the 49ers’ game last week against the Cincinnati Bengals. Now he is seeking a second opinion on the condition of his left knee.

“Ronnie’s going to get another opinion, a doctor of his own choice,” 49er Coach George Seifert said. “He’s a professional, it’s his career and it’s not unusual. It’s not totally common, but it’s near to it.”

Lott said his left knee was injured when a teammate crashed into it after diving over a pileup in the fourth quarter of the 49ers’ 7-3 victory over the Giants. The injury was originally diagnosed as a sprain, but Lott’s condition has not improved.

Seifert said Lott probably won’t play in the 49ers’ game Monday night against the Rams.
