Van Crosses Divider, Killing Family of 4
Four members of a Rancho Cordova family died when their car, filled with Christmas presents, careened across rain-slick California 99 Wednesday morning and was struck broadside by a van.
The man driving the southbound car lost control near Chowchilla and veered across a dirt median into a northbound van, the California Highway Patrol said.
The impact pushed the van almost all the way through the car.
Killed were a 48-year-old man, his 28-year-old daughter and her two children, ages 4 and 6. Their names were withheld pending notification of relatives.
