McGwire Reaches Deal With Agent Steinberg

San Diego State quarterback Dan McGwire has reached an agreement to be represented by agent Leigh Steinberg and will announce it at a news conference this morning, sources said Thursday night.

Steinberg confirmed the agreement late Thursday but declined to comment further. “I want Dan to announce what he’s doing,” Steinberg said.

“We’ll surprise you (today),” McGwire said. “I’ll make everything official.”

Steinberg currently represents 18 NFL quarterbacks, including Jeff George and Troy Aikman, the past two No. 1 draft picks, and Andre Ware, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner.

“If (McGwire) were 6-4, he would clearly be the No. 1 pick in the country,” Steinberg said in an interview in late November. “And he may well be at 6-8.”

McGwire will play in the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game.
