Texas A&M;: Tony Scott’s transfer to the campus has been painful for the player and the university, which is now being investigated.

Tony Scott, whose presence at Texas A&M; has triggered an investigation of recruiting violations in the basketball program, says his first semester has been a disappointment because of a racist attitude on the campus.

“I was getting crank calls, people calling and threatening to kill me,” said Scott, who is black. He said the calls also contained racial slurs.

“The KKK was on campus,” he said.

Texas A&M; University has admitted NCAA rules violations and Athletic Director John David Crow has pledged to continue an internal investigation.

Crow issued a statement Thursday after the Syracuse Post-Standard reported that Rob Johnson, described as a New York talent scout, arranged for Scott to transfer from Syracuse to A&M.;

Scott told The Houston Post on Thursday that he felt hostility from other students. He said his car had been scratched with a key and someone kicked a dent in it. His girlfriend also was harassed, he said.

“My fiancee is very light-skinned and you might think she’s white,” he said. “Wherever we go (in College Station), people look at us (and say), ‘What’s she doing with him?’ ”
