A 77-year-old Coronado woman was killed and her 80-year-old husband seriously injured Tuesday when their car collided with a stopped San Diego Transit bus at an off-ramp of Interstate 15, authorities said.
No cause for the accident was reported, but the California Highway Patrol was investigating.
None of the six passengers aboard the bus was injured, officials said.
Dead at the scene was Charlotte Kaufman, according to the San Diego county medical examiner’s office. She was a passenger in a sedan driven by her husband, John Kaufman, who was in serious condition at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m., authorities said, at the Poway Road off-ramp leading from northbound I-15. The Kaufmans’ sedan rear-ended a city bus that was stopped at a red light at the top of the ramp, the CHP said. The car’s speed was not available. The San Diego Fire Department helped remove both victims from the car, authorities said.
