A Canadian college volleyball player died and another was in critical condition today after they apparently were overcome by carbon monoxide fumes from a faulty heater in their hotel room, authorities said.

Cory Louis Korosi, 21, of Calgary, Alberta, was found dead Tuesday in his room at the Mission Valley Inn. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

His roommate, Henry Kim Wong, 20, also of Calgary, was found in a coma. He was taken to the University of California, San Diego, Medical Center for treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning in the hospital’s hyperbaric chamber. Wong underwent several hours of treatment but remained on life-support systems early today. He was listed in critical condition.
