“Another 48 HRS.,” with another week at No. 1 on the Billboard magazine rental chart, is living up to expectations. It has enough appeal to last another week or two on top before it’s dethroned by one of the hot new competitors--like “RoboCop 2,” which debuted at a lofty No. 8. Before “The Godfather Part III” opened to mixed reviews, it was the most eagerly anticipated movie of the Christmas season. It even inspired many fans to resee the first two, made in the early ‘70s. Both did well enough to show up on the video sales chart--unusual for old films. The package of I and II, “The Godfather: 1902-1959, the Complete Epic,” which retails for $100, entered the chart at No. 28, and the original, “The Godfather” ($30), opened at No. 39.

* Though it grossed $107 million at the box office, “Dick Tracy,” featuring Warren Beatty and Madonna, was considered a disappointment. It was expected to gross twice as much and be the merchandising phenomenon of 1990. In the rental market, “Tracy” opened at No. 17 but could be No. 1 in the next week or two.
