Supervisor Mike Antonovich announced Wednesday that he has nominated a Palmdale resident to fill a vacancy on the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission.

If confirmed by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday to a four-year term, Pat Russell, a member of the county Human Relations Commission since 1981, will become the first commission representative from the Antelope Valley.

“They’re going to have a local representative finally,” said Russell, 51, a Palmdale resident since 1972.

“I know pretty much what’s going on up here.”

Russell, who, along with her husband, operates a heating and air-conditioning company in Palmdale, is active in the Antelope Valley chapter of the California Republican Assembly and served as a delegate for President Ronald Reagan at the 1984 Republican Convention.

She has known Antonovich since they were students at John Marshall High School in Los Angeles in the late 1950s.
