Fire gutted a 47-foot boat moored in Marina del Rey early Wednesday, causing an estimated $150,000 damage to the craft and $50,000 to its contents. Another boat was also damaged.

The power boat, docked in Slip 1717 of the marina at 13969 Marquesas Way, was reported ablaze at 3:51 a.m., Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Jerry Patten said.

The flames spread to a 52-foot boat docked to the power boat’s starboard side, and caused an estimated $50,000 damage. People who live aboard the 52-footer were away when the fire started, Patten said.

Twenty-one firefighters contained the flames in about 20 minutes, Patten said.

One firefighter suffered a broken leg when he slipped on the gangway from the dock to the flaming pleasure craft. He was taken to Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital.

The identity of the owner and the name of the demolished boat were not available.

Patten said the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
