Cal State Fullerton and Genia Miller broke loose in the second half for a 74-50 victory in a Big West Conference opener Wednesday night.
Miller, the Titans’ senior center, was held to four points in the first half when Fresno State packed its 2-3 zone inside and forced Fullerton to shoot outside. Miller recovered in the second half to finish with 21 points.
Forward Claudette Jackson scored 17 of her 19 points in the first half for the Titans (7-2), and Joey Ray (15 points) and Heidi James (11) hit consistently from the outside to ruin Fresno State’s strategy.
Fullerton led, 36-31, at halftime. Miller finally found some room to maneuver early in the second half, scoring nine consecutive points in a 13-0 run that gave the Titans a 49-33 lead with 10:39 remaining.
Geri Gainey, a former Mater Dei High School standout, led the Bulldogs (6-4) with nine points.
